British mezzo-soprano Katie Macdonald is a graduate of the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, where her studies were generously supported by The Behrens Foundation, The Kathleen Trust and The Mario Lanza Foundation. Katie is an Oxford Lieder Young Artist, a Britten-Pears Young Artist and a Voces8 Scholar for the 2022-2023 period.
In the past few years Katie has won the 2021 Susan Longfield Prize, and the 2021 Chartered Surveyors Competition, and was a finalist in the Kathleen Ferrier Bursary Competition, The GSMD English Song Prize and Camille Coloratura Awards. Recent opera engagements include working with Grange Park Opera, Sky Arts, Opera Holland Park, West Green House Opera, St James’s Piccadilly, British Youth Opera, GSMD Opera and Melos Sinfonia. Other projects include a lunchtime recital with LSO Discovery, workshops with Royal Opera House’s composer in residence, recording a selection of Rutter’s Christmas Carols for Classic FM, and being part of SWAP’ra’s International Women’s Day Showcase.
Upcoming engagements include Shepherd Boy in Tosca (Grange Park Opera), Sister Osmina in Suor Angelica (Grange Park Opera), Gerardo in Elena e Gerardo (Random Opera), Spring Song Recital with Oxford Lieder and premiering new compositions as part of the Aldeburgh Festival at Snape Maltings (Britten Pears Arts)
