HGO Marcio-da-Silva
Marcio da Silva

Born in Brazil, Marcio da Silva studied singing, choral conducting, and orchestral conducting, at the Conservatoire de Toulouse, France. He received his Bachelor of Music Degree in orchestral conducting from the Hochschule für Musik, Freiburg, Germany, and was subsequently awarded a Masters Degree in conducting from the Royal College of Music, London.

From a young age Marcio gained extensive experience in opera as a child soloist at Palacio das Artes in Belo Horizonte, and subsequently at the Théâtre du Capitole de Toulouse, the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées and the Théâtre du Châtelet in France. Marcio was music director of Woodhouse Opera from 2012 until its final season in 2018, and is the founder of Ensemble OrQuesta. In these roles he has acted as both stage and music director for over 20 operas. In recent years he has produced a number of  productions of baroque operas, including Handel’s Alcina, Monteverdi’s L’Incoronazione di Poppea, as well as revivals of rarely performed works like Cavalli’s Xerse and Jacquet de la Guerre’s Cephale et Procris. He is also music director of the Grange Choral Society, Hastings Philharmonic Choir and Artistic Director of Hastings Philharmonic Orchestra. Marcio is also an active soloist. recently performing Schumann’s Dichterliebe, Schubert’s Winterreise and Vaughan Williams’ Songs of Travel and The House of Life.
