Countertenor Dominic Mattos is studying for a PGDipAS with Jane Irwin at the Royal Northern College of Music, having completed his MMus with distinction in 2022. His studies have been generously supported by an entrance award from the RNCM, the Waverley Fund, and a Sybil Tutton Award from Help Musicians UK. Dominic is also very grateful to have been an Andrew Lloyd Webber Foundation scholar for all three years of study.
Most recently, Dominic has sung Stepmother in a new Cinderella pasticcio on tour for Merry Opera. Last year he sang Didymus in Handel’s Theodora for Essex Baroque and David in Saul for Aylesbury Opera, as well as covering Ruggiero in Handel’s Alcina for Opera North. Dominic was also heard in the BBC Radio 3 drama Wunderkind. At RNCM Dominic has appeared as Orlofsky in Die Fledermaus and as the Refugee in a concert presenation of Dove’s Flight. Opera scenes include Farnace in Mitridate Re di Ponto (Mozart), Fox in The Adventures of Pinnochio (Dove) and Orfeo in Orfeo ed Euridice (Gluck) at the Morley College Opera Schoo.
A recent convert to classical music Dominic had a prior career as a cabaret and variety performer, including appearances at the Aldeburgh Music Festival, the Metropolitan Room in New York, the Blackpool Grand, The Jermyn Street Theatre and on BBC Radio 4. He still performs professionally as a pantomime dame, most recently giving his Twankey in Twickenham (Christmas 2021).
