
British mezzo-soprano/contralto Stephanie Wake-Edwards, is a winner of the Concours Bordeaux Médoc Lyrique, a graduate of the Jette Parker Young Artist Programme at the Royal Ballet and Opera, Covent Garden, England’s representative for the Cardiff Singer of the World Competition, and a current ensemble member of the Deustche Oper Berlin. In 2017 she took the roles of the Old Woman and the Book of Fate in HGO’s production of Joanthan Dove’s The Enchanted Pig, and of Arnalta in its production of Poppea. She was Third Lady in our 2016 production of The Magic Flute. Stephanie’s performances of the 2024/25 season as part of the Deutsche Oper Berlin ensemble include the title role in Carmen, La Marchesa Melibea in Il viaggio a Reims, Maddalena in Rigoletto, Mary in Der fliegende Holländer, the Page in Salome, and more. Highlights of 2025/26 season include Grimgerde in Die Walküre and Floßhilde in Götterdämmerung as part of the Ring Cycle. Elsewhere in 2024/25, Stephanie will appear as Polina in Pique Dame with Garsington Opera and Hermia in A Midsummer Night’s Dream in concert as part of the BBC Proms.
While at the Royal Ballet and Opera, Stephanie performed Anna in Weill’s The Seven Deadly Sins, filmed for streamimng release, Flora in La traviata and 3rd Lady in Die Zauberflöte.In concert, she has performed Handel’s Messiah with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, Mahler’s Symphony No. 3 with Semyon Bychkov at the Royal Festival Hall in London, Vivaldi’s Stabat Mater at the Grafenegg Festival in Austria, Messiah in Dubai with the Astana Symphony Orchestra, as well as recitals at Wigmore Hall, Opéra national de Bordeaux and Oxford Lieder Festival.
Based in Berlin, Stephanie recently recorded selections of Fanny Hensel at the Mendelssohn house in Leipzig, including some works never before recorded. She graduated from the University of York with a BA in Sociology with Social Psychology followed by a Masters Degree in Vocal Studies at the Royal Academy of Music,
where she is an Associate, with Alex Ashworth.
