Partenope (May 2019)

“What a joyful and excellent production! The singing and acting were great. And as an Italian I was very impressed with their diction. Set and costumes were inventive and fun. The movement on the stage was very well choreographed, like a series of beautifully composed pictures. A young and very committed orchestra added to the pleasure.”

“Go and see Partenope! I was hugely impressed and inspired by the superb singing and playing from this small cast of young, up and coming opera singers and musicians. The young creative team really bring Handel’s opera to life – it is colourful, light-hearted, clever and witty. A real treat to hear such wonderful voices and fantastic playing in this intimate venue.”

“Brilliantly staged on an Edwardian beach and not on the battle field. Tents, stripped swimming costumes… Definitely an opera not so seria. Yet, wonderfully orchestrated. High standard of singing and acting. Countertenor and Partenope, superb! Such a bold leap to place Handel’s glorious, sublime music in this jolly setting. It worked!”

“A splendid and massively praiseworthy production. Admirably, near impeccably, sung with a marvellous orchestra. I saw Partenope, some time ago (at ENO, I think) – I preferred this production. Highly recommended.”
