
Jonathan Darbourne is a conductor, singer and arranger. He began his musical training as a chorister at Southwark Cathedral; during this time, he took the role of Miles in Elijah Moshinsky’s production of The Turn of the Screw. Jonathan later read Music and sang as a choral scholar in the choir of Magdalen College, Oxford, continuing to further study as a countertenor at the Schola Cantorum, Basel, and the Barock Vokal programme in Mainz, where he studied with Andreas Scholl.
In 2020, Jonathan co-founded Vache Baroque for which he has lead four fully-staged operas and numerous multi-artform programmes from the harpsichord. He is chorus master for the NSO, has been assistant conductor and continuo player for The Grange Festival’s production of Tamerlano, and has led projects ranging from the Voces8 Scholars to choir scenes in a number of Netflix productions
As a consort singer, he performs with leading European baroque ensembles such as the Dunedin Consort, Concerto Copenhagen, the Marian Consort, and the Freiburger Barockorchester. Also in demand as a choral arranger, his commissions have been broadcast live on BBC Radio 3, and performed at London venues including Cadogan Hall, Smith Square Hall, and Temple Church.
