Edie Bailey first started working in opera while studying as an undergraduate Music student at King’s College London. While in the role of President of King’s Opera Society they also directed their first opera production, Mozart’s Die Zauberflote. Following on from this they started worked as an Assistant Director, beginning their career at Berlin Opera Academy and Morley Opera School. After this they took part in Guildhall School of Music and Drama’s Opera Directing Junior Felowship, assisting Rodula Gaitanou, Martin Lloyd-Evans, and Will Kerley while also working closely with Victoria Newlyn, Dominic Wheeler, and Ashley Dean.
In 2024, they assisted Cecelia Stinton on her production of Il Barbiere di Siviglia at Opera Holland Park. They also worked as the Associate Director on The Opera Maker’s productions of La Boheme and Mr Punch Goes to the Opera at Grimeborn. They have also begun to specialise in directing new and contemporary opera. In July 2024, they directed Lewis Coenen-Rowe’s opera Stumped which was performed at the Edinburgh Fringe. In September 2024, they directed Robin Fiedler’s new opera Serenoid as part of the Tete-a-Tete Festival.
